The Izutsu daredevil weaving team is relentlessly investigating contemporary and traditional materials and developing new weaving techniques and textiles inspired by Japan’s millennia old weaving tradition. Our goal is the harmonious meeting of old and new, to create the authentically new, to create textiles thing that will endure.
This textile is a mashup of our signature thread leather technology with the classic 'worn out kesa' Buddhist priest robe pattern, but subtly woven in psychedelic colors. Our dream is to make a motorcycle jacket with this fabric for the reincarnation of 8th century Japanese priest Kukai (A.K.A. Kobo-Daishi) and see him doing the Shikoku Junrei Pilgrimage route of 88 temples on the Island of Shikoku as a saintly, enlightened outlaw biker.
