The Izutsu daredevil weaving team is relentlessly investigating contemporary and traditional materials and developing new weaving techniques and textiles inspired by Japan’s millennia old weaving tradition. Our goal is the harmonious meeting of old and new, to create the authentically new, to create textiles thing that will endure.
This textile's base matrix is based on the classic 'worn out kesa' Buddhist priest robe pattern. Upon this, we weave thick, luxurious raw silk yarn that has been dyed in the traditional danzome technique and then woven in the traditional 'hikibaku-sochi' obi (kimono sash) weaving technique.
